Sonya Heisters – Deputy Director

Sonya Heisters, YouthTruth Deputy Director, works closely with the executive director on strategic priority areas that help school systems and education foundations center student voices to drive more equitable outcomes for our nation’s youth.

Prior to joining YouthTruth, Sonya served in higher ed as a director at the Presidio Graduate School. Her experience in K-12 education includes work as a high school English teacher, K-graduate level tutoring program director, and as the site director of a K-5 after-school program in rural California. Sonya studied education and nonprofit management at Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. She completed her Student Teaching practicum at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School.

When Sonya is not connecting with education and foundation leaders, you might find Sonya hiking along the Point Reyes National Seashore with her husband and two sons or reading the latest from adrienne maree brown or Rebecca Solnit.
