survey & implementation
survey content
The YouthTruth survey asks high school students a series of questions about what’s working well and what could be improved in their schools. The survey typically takes students about 20 minutes to complete and is administered online. The four main themes covered in the YouthTruth survey include:
- Students’ relationships with teachers,
- The rigor of classroom instruction,
- School culture, and
- Students’ preparedness for the future.
YouthTruth implementation
YouthTruth is made up of five major steps in schools: 1) preparing for YouthTruth and kicking off the process, 2) administering the online YouthTruth survey, 3) learning from students’ feedback, 4) convening with peer schools to exchange best practices and move from data to action, and 5) sharing results back with students and staff. Check out the links below to learn more about the YouthTruth experience in schools and hear from past participants—principals and students—about how YouthTruth differed from other survey projects they’ve participated in.
network convenings
YouthTruth brings participating schools together in regional convenings after they have received their YouthTruth report. In these meetings, we share trends seen across network schools and faciliate discussions among school leaders about the strengths and opportunities for improvement at their schools, as reflected in their students’ feedback. See an example of how school leaders move from understanding their data to being positioned to act on that data below.
sharing data back
Schools commit to share data back with students before the end of the school year. We encourage schools to involve students in responding to their feedback. Learn from two schools’ experiences sharing data back with students below.
